There is change surrounding Elko as the cooler autumn weather brings alive vibrant colors floating through the air. Balloon pilots and crews from all over the United States converge on Elko to enjoy wide open balloon flying at the foot of the beautiful, majestic Ruby Mountains arrayed in colors of the fall season. Between 20 to 40 balloons fill the skies with vivid colors in the crisp fall air.
The Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival is an annual event sponsored by Ruby Mountain Hot Air Inc., a non-profit, local organization whose mission is to come together as balloonists – pilots, crew and interested individuals, to educate and share the sport of Hot Air Ballooning. The Balloon Festival will host a variety of vendors selling unique balloon items and festival attire. Various activities during the event include a barbeque, a balloon glow, a live band and tethered balloon rides.
The Sky Fair is held in conjunction with the Festival which features a pancake breakfast, static aircraft displays, military participation, tethered hot air balloon rides, drawing for Young Eagle Flights and radio controlled aircraft demonstration flights.
