South Fork State Recreation AreaSouth Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of rolling hills and meadowlands. This reservoir is best known for trout and bass fishing-with a small amount of catfish also caught. Facilities include a boat launch, campground, trailer dump station and picnic area.Distance from Elko: 16 miles (25.8 km) Services: Limited services available in Spring Creek miles-8 km) Map: #1 on Map Wild Horse State Recreation AreaThis 120 acre park is centered on the northeast shore of Wild Horse Reservoir. Trout, bass, yellow perch and catfish can all be caught from the shore by boat.Distance from Elko: 70 miles (112.7 km) Services: All services available Map: #2 on Map Ruby Lake National Wildlife RefugeThis 37,632 acre refuge holds Ruby Lake and prime large mouth bass fishing. Fly or spin fishing is also available, as well as the possibility of hooking a real trophy trout. A fresh water bullrush marsh, open ponds, and grassy uplands are also home to an amazing variety of birds and other animals.
